Burn baby, burn.
As their second-to-last show of their inaugural season, Burn This, by recent playwright Lanford Wilson, directed by Mark McCarver delves into the feelings associated with losing a friend. “I’ve wanted to stage this piece for a while now, but when Lanford Wilson died last year, I said to myself “Okay, it’s now or never,” said McCarver, “And when Aaron Aguilar opened the floor for new directors with pieces to offer, I knew it couldn’t be a coincidence.” Proxy Theatre is proud to bring Wilson’s work to San Antonio as a way of honoring his passing. Opening at Northwest Vista’s Blackbox Theatre next Thursday, May 10th, Burn This promises to touch you: “Everyone will take something different away from this piece. That is the beauty of Wilson’s work,” said McCarver.
about the performance
Burn This begins after the funeral of Robby, a young gay dancer. His roommates— choreographer Anna and ad-man Larry— are left stunned and grieved. Burton, Anna’s lover, tries desperately to console her, to no avail. Pale, Robby’s older brother, comes to the Lower East Side Manhattan loft to collect Robby’s belongings, but is unable to leave after meeting Anna. The four characters must find a way to overcome loss, regain control of their lives and ultimately find and redefine themselves. Owning a long history on Broadway, Burn This comes to San Antonio for the first time in years.
